Department of Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy
Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy - Overview
In the Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy department the guiding principles for teaching, learning and assessment include academically and clinically rigorous and relevant content and lifelong learning skills. These skills include clinical reasoning and problem solving; assessment and diagnosis; & decision making. The modular syllabus of Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy has emphasis on evidence-based practice & research. Students are trained in the application of preventive and management programs based on basic, behavioural, medical and physiotherapeutic sciences. Post-graduate students get an opportunity to develop advanced research skills and are encouraged to actively participate in clinical effectiveness, evaluation and departmental research.
Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy OPD
Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy service offers detailed assessment and treatment sessions for people with any musculoskeletal pain or problem. Our team of musculoskeletal physiotherapists ensures our patients are treated in a professional and ethical manner; ensuring patients receive the best care for their problem. We have physiotherapists specialized in Manual therapy techniques, Advanced Electrotherapeutics, Hand, to name a few.
As a large teaching hospital all our staff attend regular teaching sessions to ensure our knowledge is up-to-date, allowing us to make sure our treatments are as researched and based on evidence as possible.
Our students are adequately exposed to supervise clinical training in musculoskeletal area. MGM Hospital Kamothe has a constant inflow of in-patient & out-patients. Students are posted in MGM Hospital, Kamothe Physiotherapy OPD, Orthopaedic ward, Hand Clinic, Leprosy Clinic. In addition to this students are also posted in Mathadi Hospital for the Mathadi workers of APMC market. Musculoskeletal Department has started an Arthritis Support Group in November 2013.

Physiotherapy 1995, Mumbai University; PhD Cardiff University, UK, 2007) is presently a Professor in Physiotherapy and Director of MGM School of Physiotherapy and MGM Centre of Human Movement Science at MGM Institute of Health Sciences, Navi Mumbai.
Dr.Mullerpatan is an aspiring Human Movement Scientist and Physiotherapist in India, trying to explore movement forms of Yoga, traditional Indian sports, dance and daily activity for evidence-based integration of these movement forms in the efforts designed for culturally palatable health promotion strategies for attenuation of the burden of non-communicable diseases and collateral promotion of Indian heritage in movement among the younger generation. Parallel collaborative research with engineers continues in design and validation of technology for rehabilitation which can be used for the masses in rural and urban sector to address unmet needs in healthcare.
She has published and reviewed research work in the area of clinical biomechanics and rehabilitation.
Currently she is focused on development of Biomechanics in India to meet local healthcare needs of Indian population. She has collaborated with leading national and international institutions in UK, Canada & Australia to promote training and research in health promotion, clinical biomechanics, clinical rehabilitation and technology design. In her role as an academician she has mentored 4 PhD and 26 MPT scholars. She has worked towards development of 5 technologies of which one has been successfully transferred to Industry. Her passion and commitment along with a dedicated Team drives activities of clinical service, research and training at MGM Centre of Human Movement Science & MGM School of Physiotherapy Navi Mumbai.
